Colonization and Peru

As previously said, most parts of the world have suffered the consequences of colonization. One of these countries is Peru. Peru was first conquered by the Spaniards in the 1300's. The colonization of peru was extremely brutal. The Spaniards went through the whole Incan empire slaughtering as Incans as they could. Not only did they slaughter the Incans in inhuman ways, but they also destroyed their cities, leaving very little of what the actual cities might have looked like. One of the only cities left in Peru that was undiscovered by the Spaniards is Machu Picchu. That is one of the few resemblances Peru has of what Incan villages used to look like. The Spaniards went in and destroyed much of Incan culture. When Spaniards conquered the Incans they forced to change from their "pagan" religions to Christianity. This explains why much of Peru is Christian. Another part of the Incan culture that was lost was Quechua. This was the language spoken through much of the Incan empire that spread through much of South America. Along with language, Peru's architecture also changed to more colonial spanish style houses. More serious effects of colonization in Peru was the great divisions of class. Indigenous people were left extremely poor with little land and extremely oppressed by the Spanish and Europeans who continued to live in the country. I have been there recently and I can't say that much has changed. There is an immense division in class. Although Incan culture is still alive, there is still a disgusting amount of oppression and exploitation of indigenous people in the country. 

As with any most colonized regions, like Africa in "The heart of Darkness" the people being colonized are treated inhumanely, oppressed, and exploited by the power that is colonizing them. Most problems that occur after regions are decolonized is poverty, unequal distribution of resources, no direct boundaries in regions causing rivalries and war within opposing groups,  and lack of adequate human rights, governmental institutions and leaders.
