In “Towards a Feminist Poetics” by Elaine Showalter, she first explained feminist criticisms are divided into two diversities. The first type she explains is woman as reader which “includes the images and stereotypes of women in literature, the omissions and misconceptions about women in criticism, and the fissures in male-constructed literary history. It also concerned with the exploitation and manipulation of the female audience, especially in popular culture and film.” (Elaine Showalter) And the second type is woman as writer, this type explains “woman as the producer of textual meaning, with the history, themes, genres, and structures of literature by women. It subjects include the psychodynamics of female creativity, linguistic and problem of female language……” (Elaine Showalter). Applying the feminist criticism to Angela Carter’s “Company of Wolves”, in here, the little girl was being depicted as pure for her virginity, “she is an unbroken egg……” (Company of Wolves), also brave, strong-minded, and insists to go through the wood with a knife even in the “worst year for wolves” (Company of Wolves) instead of these ordinary description of young girls are constantly depicted as weak and fearful. In addition, the little girl was definitely being portrayed as an independent and beautiful. While in the other reading by Julia Kristeva, the feminism was more linked to Christianity. In Christianity, women are portrayed as protected by men, and dependent, not like Carter’s story, the ideology of women is weak and always dependent on men has totally break through.
