The Bicycle Thieves, The Waterfront, The work of art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction

While reviewing the films and the passage anyone can easily pick up the strong sense of Marxist criticism used in them. The Bicycle Thieves, starts with the division of classes. The man cant get the job that the main actor got because he is at a lower class. He is a bricklayer and even though he has the bicycle needed to go out and get the job done he isn't allowed to do so. This can be refer ed to real life as well because there are many who have degrees and skills do to a job that they go for but because they person interviewing sees the next guy a little more fitted or suitable for the job according to his social standings, he is given the job.
In the second film, On the Waterfront, similar to the Bicycles Thieves deals with social class. Here in this clip you have the factory owner throwing chips at workers and who ever gets the chip get to make some money for the day. The clip also shows the breaking of families. In the clip i believe the daughter of one of the man fights for a chip for her father, while the son watches. The father says that he is happy that at least his daughter cares for him. A Marxist critique can see this and know this is a work that relates or is influenced by marxism because of the lack of money, the poverty, the fight over chips for a days pay.
The passage I read on Mechanical reproduction was interesting. The line where he says, “sense of the universal equality of things” has increased to such a degree that it extracts it even from a unique object by means of reproduction." made me realize that people are so in reach of having equality that they seem to lose the real meaning behind the what the object or the job is for. you often have the person saying that feel they need equality in every job and every stage of life even though it seems as if i may be contradicting my self by saying that this line is a Marxist line yet at the same time saying no its not because I feel that a lot of times people want equality in soc ail classes or in the economy but they dont realize that the economy is on social classes. You have to have the rich, middle and poor class in order to keep the economy flowing. If we have the equality everyone wants then there would be no thriving for better. We would stay satisfied with what we have. Wow I don't even know where this piece went but I feel that both films clearly show Marxism and theta the passage is also Marxist but i feel the passage helped me realize that social class problems aren't only bad they can have some good forms too.
