Antonio Gramsci

When reading the piece of Intellectuals and Hegemony by Antonio Gramsic, I learned that Gramsic is very philosophical. His view of the world seems very calm and collected. He wants people to learn from what they themselves experience in life instead of following what the rest of society puts forth.
In his piece there are talks of Hegemony, which is a concept used by "Marxist to indicate the political leadership of the working-class in a democratic revolution." Gramsic feel that the nation never under went the democratic revolution but in fact have taken after Capitalism. All the society is doing what others are doing. There is no sense of Democracy, everyone is following what the society demands of them. He feels that people need to move beyond this classification and exert intellectual and moral leadership.
Gramsic, says that all men are intellectual but only a few have the social functions of intellectual. What we are feed is by what we pick up from the media and what we are taught. No one says that they want to do what they want, everyone follows one another. Like Garmsic's piece we learned that the piece on Marxism was very similar in the sense that world is very materialistic. We pick up how to live and what to follow over what we watch on television. We follow the latest trends and the want the newest accessories because we fell that we need to keep up with the world. In reality if we use our intellectual brains on how to make our lives better we would be alot more advanced and live more easily.
