Egyptian Mystery

1. Choose a time period and locale: The time period that I am choosing for my mystery is modern day. The setting is in Egypt, in an excavation around the Pyramids of Giza. One local noticed some cracks in the ground. They looked like the ones that were discovered at an earlier date and had led to some really great discoveries. So he told everyone and soon an excavation was underway.
2. Develop a detective: Tara Carmine was one of the students that were allowed from Harvard University to join in this excavation for some hands on experience. She had a good eye for new details and an almost photgraphic memory. In addition to that she had developed a way of identifying certain materials with a special formula. The liquid was indicative of certain metals and stone samples. She couldn't wait to test it on the uncovered materials at the excavation.3. Outline the crime: Tara's, Professor Walburg, uncovered 5 gold scarabs and small pieces of jewelry. His assistant,a Jack ,who had recently earned his degree was really excited. They had observed on previous occasions that these artifacts could be spread out in a large area. So, while Tara and her Professors excavated an area, local boys and girls came observe them. For a bit of pocket change she taught some of them how to clean the uncovered materials and apply her formula. However this was looked down upon by her professor and the local parents. Jack on the other hand was kind enough to help her and convinced them that this was going to be a great experience. Later on that night they set up camp and paid 3 local watchmen to watch out for their discoveries. They knew they could trust them because the locals were getting 15% worth of the find. No one seemed to mind. However they next day the watchmen were found almost dead. The only artifacts gone were the five gold scarabs.
4. Include some clues: Tara had heard the locals quarrel last night about their discoveries as with all discoveries. They were scared and superstitious. Then she remembered that Jack had reasoned with them. The artifacts left over were not the ones she had applied her formula on. And the only people who knew about the formula were the the four locals, Jack and herself.
5. Identify the MMO: Tara felt hertbroken for herself and for her Professor. This discovery would have been a good ending to his life long work. It was a relief that he didn't seemed unwavered from the excavation though. She admired his unrelently ability and focus and the tasks ahead. But it did seem a bit odd. Even Jack was on his knees in worry.
6. Identify the alibis of the suspects: The local police identified the time of the crime to around midnight. How cliche'! Tara remebered seeing a light on in the professors tent around that time. She was trying to sleep with Jack's loud snores that seemed to echo. The light, a small blur, almost comforted her and remindered her of home. Most of the locals seemed scared and not suspicious of crime. The childrens parents were very defensive though. When asked where they were they said at home but that couldn't be proven. One parent was caught lying when his son asked him about it though.
7. Provide a climax: Just then, she remembered that the chemist who helped her make the formula told her that the formula could glow when exposed to a dark light. She just happened to have one in her book bag. Later on that evening during dinner she thought of a way to entertain her colleges with a light show inspired by the locals. At the end of her last routine she used her dark light and waved it on the palms of the locals and collegues. She exposed the professor and some local parents who had the formula glowing in their hands.
