The film I chose was the famous Titanic (1997). Titanic was a romantical production. A wealthy young lady by the name of Rose (played by Kate Winslet) meets a less fortunate young man who happened to save her one night when she was dismayed by persuading her not to jump over the ship. Soon after this incident, the man, Jack Dawson (played by Leonardo DiCapri) and Rose begin to spend time with each other and eventually fall in love. A typical love story when two for deeply in love, or more specifically when opposites attract. However, because of their different economic status, as well as the disappoval of Rose's mother, there was a conflict between Rose, Jack, and the elite society, primarily Rose's mother and her fiance, Cal. The fact that she was already engaged and seeing another man didn't help their situation.
Eventhough Titanic was a romantic film, tradgedy played a major part in it. What occured to the famous oceanliner, Titanic, is a historical fact. Many people did lose their lives in the freezing waters in the year 1912 when the ship collided with an enormous iceberg. The characters and the story line was fictional. The ending was emotional because it showed innocent lives, especially young children and those less fortunate dying in the freezing waters while crying for help. The irony is that the elite women were saved first and children. Out of many rescue boats only one returned to save Rose after hearing her whistle.
The scene when Rose sees a rescue boat nearby and turns to Jack to tell him was another tragic scene. After promising him that she will not give up and die, she sees that her beloved Jack had frozen to death. I'm quite sure the audience became emotional in this scene. The pain in Rose's face was obvious to all. Perhaps, the males in the audience tried to act as if they did not feel it but I believe they were probably hiding the real emotion inside!
After hearing the whistle, and recalling her promise to Jack, Rose lets go of Jack and watches him sink into the water. Rose begins to swim in the frigid waters while blowing desperately her whistle in the hopes she will get rescued. At the end, Rose eventually gets rescued and when asked for her name she says Rose Dawson.

It's kind of funny that this movie is so famous but I barely remember it because I watched it when I was young. It is most certainly a romantic production which in a sense I think is sad because they concentrated so much on the love affair that you kind of lose the historical purpose of the movie. Nonetheless, this movie is a classic love story that probably laid down the foundation for many romance movies.
